CONTEXT IQ ADDED TO DYNAMICS 365 & OFFICE 365
New pay as you go Licensing for Microsoft Power Apps was announced in November 2021. It will benefit businesses who want to get started with Power Apps, even if they have unpredictable or infrequent usage. This change provides flexibility and adaptability for SMBs to take advantage as you can get started without any license commitment or upfront purchasing.
A typical scenario of usage can be seen below. On the diagram there are varying amounts of users who have logged in multiple times in the month. Businesses will be charged for each user, that logs in and each app.

AZURE SUBSCRIPTION
Previously power apps were purchased, and the License allocated to the user, but by moving this to an Azure subscription it adds flexibility and reduces prices for low-medium use.
Businesses will need to determine whether prepaid licenses make financial sense, which we are more than happy to advise on, but for most SMBs this is going to be a bonus. If you already have an Azure subscription which you use for other Microsoft services, this will also benefit you too as you can consolidate all.
Questions & Answers
Is pay-as-you-go available for both canvas apps and model-driven apps?
Yes.
Can pay-as-you-go be set up for individual apps?
Q. AM I LOCKED IN WITH INTURI?
NO. Pay-as-you-go is set up for an environment and all apps within that environment are billed against the associated Azure subscription. However, you can exclude an app from using the Azure subscription, in which case a user will need a per-user license to use the app. Per-app licenses cannot be used in a pay-as-you-go environment.
What if a user runs the same app multiple times in a month? How will that user be charged?
Pay-as-you-go billing only counts unique monthly active users of an app. Repeat access of the same app by a user in a single month results in only one charge for that user that month.
Can I stop using pay-as-you-go billing at any time?
Yes, you can disable pay-as-you-go at any point by either deleting the billing policy or removing the environment from the billing policy. Doing so will stop any further charges on the Azure subscription.
